It’s necessary to isolate sounds when recording in the field. A very directional microphone is used like the Sennheiser Mkh 816F which is a mono microphone. High resolution microphones that record at 100khz are also mono like the Sanken C-100K. In practice, the majority of sounds effects are edited in mono in a professional post production environment. This allows the sound mixer control over panning and spacial placement of the sound in visual field. If the sound was recorded in mono we release it in mono. We do not release mono sounds presented as stereo files with identical material on the left and right channels.

Sounds in our collections are not “Glued”.  We prepare the sounds so you don’t have to spend the time separating them.

The sounds in our collections have been recorded with a wide variety of recording units, sample rates, and microphones over many years. We don’t release the techniques we use to capture the sounds.

Our base resolution is 48 khz/24 bit and up. Depending on the year certain audio recording devices where available usually determines the rate at which the sounds were captured. The need to capture sound at a high resolution is also taken into consideration. Most of the time it’s not needed to capture every sound at 196khz/24bit or 92khz/24 or 32 bit floating.

It all depends on the rarity of the sound, the difficulty in capturing the sound, the amount of files in the collection, the size of the collection, etc.
